Manufacturing-X & Industry 4.0 Events

Manufacturing-X is Kaphera’s second beachhead after automotive. EUR 295M total project volume (EUR 146M state funding, ~50%), 129 sub-projects, 108 partner organizations including 27 SMEs. The program builds on the same Eclipse Dataspace Components (EDC) framework and Asset Administration Shell (AAS) information model that Kaphera already operates in production.

Rethink! Smart Manufacturing (26/35)

What: ~150 executives with only 5 exhibitor slots in Berlin, Jun 28-30. Creates a 1:30 exhibitor-to-attendee ratio. Cost-per-qualified-conversation estimated at EUR 200-500. Confirmed speakers include Birgit Boss (Senior Expert Digital Twins and Standardization).

Why it matters: The format economics are exceptional. Five exhibitor slots means minimal noise. The 26/35 score rests on favorable format economics rather than confirmed EDC/dataspace buyer presence; attendees may be interested in broader Industry 4.0 topics.

What to do:

  • Apply for one of five exhibitor slots (limited availability)
  • Bring an AAS / digital twin demo using Kaphera’s AAS Part 2-compliant Digital Twin Registry
  • Target: Head of Production and Head of Digitalization at Manufacturing-X companies
  • Goal: 10-15 qualified conversations

What to skip: Pure automation/robotics conversations that do not involve data exchange infrastructure.

Hannover Messe and SPS: Monitor for 2027

Hannover Messe (130,000 attendees, 4,000 exhibitors): Bain confirmed at HM 2026 that “most manufacturers remain stuck in Industry 4.0 pilots,” requiring “true co-ownership between COO and CIO” to scale. Consider for 2027 once case studies exist.

SPS (Nuremberg, Nov 24-26): Germany’s largest automation trade fair, 1,175 exhibitors, ~56,000 visitors. SPS 2025 hosted a “Data Ecosystems in the European Manufacturing Industry” panel. Post-GA timing is favorable (7 weeks after Oct 1), but the mega-expo format makes it monitor-only for a pre-scale startup.

Manufacturing-X Ecosystem Overview

Manufacturing-X encompasses 16 sector-specific projects. Factory-X alone is EUR 153M with 47 consortium members (SAP + Siemens co-lead), transitioning from development to operations after mid-2026.

Factory-X Dual-Speed Architecture

Factory-X uses a dual-speed approach: AAS handles data standardization and resolves many use cases alone; EDC is added when discoverability and security at scale are required. This means participants start with AAS (digital twins) and graduate to EDC connectors as they scale. The graduation moment is Kaphera’s entry point.

Georg Kube (Head of Industry Data Ecosystems, SAP) leads technical direction. Governance flows through the Manufacturing-X Guidance Board, moderated by Factory-X and VDI Technologiezentrum.

SCALE-MX: The Single Gateway

SCALE-MX (VDMA-led, EUR 4.4M, 84.9% BMWK funded) is the single gateway to all sector projects rather than requiring separate engagement per sub-initiative. It is the specific government mechanism for SME technology transfer. The 27 SMEs in Manufacturing-X have the funding (BMWK co-financed) but not the internal capacity to self-host EDC infrastructure.

Action: Request access to VDMA/SCALE-MX member events. Position Kaphera as a recommended managed-connector provider for Manufacturing-X SME onboarding.

Factory-X consortium meetings score highest because participants are transitioning from development to operations and face the make-or-buy decision on production connector management.

International Manufacturing-X Council (IMXC)

Launched July 2023, IMXC extends Manufacturing-X beyond Germany. Japan’s Ouranos Ecosystem and other national data space initiatives are pursuing interoperability, creating future international expansion vectors. Relevant post-GA once the German beachhead is established.
